HOMEWORK!! (OR TWIST PART 2)

I am on my way to the studio I have been looking forward to this all day!! It’s probably not the best idea to do cha-cha on a moving train but I can’t help myself. Walking to studio from the train station I gaze at the sky I notice the sunlight is forming ribbons of gold in between the clouds. The chill in the air makes me quicken my steps, and I can’t get to Daza Dance fast enough!

Today there is a window of opportunity before a group class to have the small ballroom all to myself to work on my homework - the Twist! If homework was this fun growing up maybe I would have done some! Ha-ha!! I am forming a phenomenal playlist- Martha and The Vandellas “Dancing in the Streets”
Stevie Wonder “Uptight”, and The Temptations “Ain’t to Proud to Beg” to name a few. You can’t listen to any of these timeless Motown Hits underscored by the incomparable Funk Brothers, the house band of Motown, without wanting to break out and dance! No one is watching me so I can let loose and shake what my momma gave me- I can feel my sassiness coming out as I am dancing all over the ballroom and at one point I start freestyling! I am overflowing with joy. There is a reason why James Brown’s song “Get Up Offa That Thang” (and dance ‘til you feel better) was such a big hit. There is something about throwing yourself wholeheartedly into dance that completely lifts your spirits. I am savoring every moment of this process!
