Great performances have the power to bring inspiration and
direction, and when an artist has a clearly defined mission it permeates
everything they are. One of my favorite comedians, Michael Jr. talks about an
incredible shift in thinking that changed the way he performed. One night after
a performance he noticed a homeless man and began thinking about what it would
mean to give him laughter. From that moment his mindset changed, and instead of
performing to only receive applause he began to shift his focus to encouraging
others. He started to perform in prisons, shelters and places where people had
little or no hope and began to receive fulfillment from giving joy to his
audience.
That is definitely the
type of performer I want to be –one focused on inspiring others. I have known
despair and what it feels like to have my world unravel and then to rebuild
again, so I want to let people know that it is possible to overcome anything. As I continue to grow as a performer I
hope that message shines through everything I do.
