REFLECTIONS ON THE 4th

I am on my porch listening to a Gentle Rainstorm as Thunder crackles softly in the background and a cleansing mist fills the air. All of a sudden the rain stops; the clouds roll away leaving the sun to give a brilliant afterglow at Sunset.

I am filled with patriotism reflecting on Lee Greenwood's song God Bless the USA Ray Charles America the Beautiful, and Whitney Houston’s Star Spangled Banner, and am grateful to be able to celebrate the Fourth of July with my friends and family.

As I think about how far America has come since its inception I am feeling very hopeful for our country, and believe that we can and will move towards unity and peace. As I talk with like-minded people from various backgrounds and cultures I know that love can truly overwhelm hate. I believe that we as a nation can not only live up to our ideals, we can surpass them. As the sun will always break forth and overcome every storm, so the true light from each one of us can overpower any darkness.
