FINDING THE BALANCE

Today I got to test out my new dance shoes they are not only beautiful, but I am able to execute dance moves more efficiently. Antonio was right about getting proper shoes – I could feel myself gliding across the floor. I am determined to have a great class today, and am off to a great start with a confident Foxtrot. I felt myself doing well on all of the smooths, the Waltz and Tango feel on point as well. I have so much joy with the East Coast Swing and today was no different. With Britney Spears playing in the background we cover the entire ballroom. When we got to the Cha-Cha Antonio compared me to a sack of potatoes – apparently I was very heavy because I needed to adjust my frame. (Hahahahaha!) He says I need to find the balance between technical excellence and expressing my emotions. (Of course whenever Antonio gives me instructions I am looking for a deeper philosophical meaning and I am thinking about every area in my life that could use balance).

At one point I stumbled and Antonio stepped back so that I would have to keep myself from falling and not use him as a crutch. We move on to Salsa and I am feeling on fire. As we move on I am very happy with my Rumba even with occasional glares from Antonio. We finish with my choice, another Salsa. The music is slower and I am having a difficult time being controlled with my movements. I get several notes and after some adjustments we practice rolling out.  I am getting better but there were a couple of times that were just straight comedy. As we close the class Antonio says he is proud of me – and I am proud of myself. This was our last class until Argentina as Antonio leaves soon. This is so real to me now, the culmination of my dream is closer than ever.
