When I begin my class with Antonio we start with smooth
dances. We do the Foxtrot twice which is a huge benefit to me. The Waltz which I believe at the moment
is my best dance was smooth and very dreamy. My Tango is getting better. We get
to Rumba and uh- oh! After about a minute he cuts the song off and his
countenance changes. “Why dost thou not wait for me turn you?” Ok he didn’t say
it like that but apparently I haven’t broken the habit of turning before he
raises his hand, so we take a few minutes and go through the turns how to
position my weight. Perhaps
I should stop holding on to his hand for dear life when I turn so he can have
some circulation in his fingers. I finally get the turn right but am worried
about remembering for the next class. We do another Rumba song and I am doing much better. I get
the intensity it’s all about becoming the best which is one of the things I
love about Antonio as a coach. He doesn’t let me stop at good enough, he always
pushes me that extra step and the results are beyond what I could hope for. We
move on to cha-cha and my shadow turns have improved. Salsa – here we go with
the turns again but after a few minutes of technique I am on my way.
For today’s life lesson we revisit staying in the moment. I
probably need to record this lesson and replay it every morning because I can
use it in every area of my life. As he talked about focusing on the moment and
building to the next moment I’m thinking about how typical it is of me to what
to rush ahead and not fully embrace the present. After class is over I stay for
a few minutes and just go over my turns; so much was accomplished today, and I
don’t want to forget!
