Today I am pouring over the video Maxi made for me doing my
choreography. It’s great to have this tool because the dance moves so fast I
forget turns and positions, etc. This makes it easier to do the steps correctly
and not have to spend time unlearning wrong technique, I can also stop and
write notes for each section.
I am looking for arm motions as well as proper footwork. As
the dots connect clearer and clearer I become freer to experiment with the
character I will portray during the dance. It’s so ironic that this dance will
help me uncover another talent I have kept hidden, Drama. I studied Drama for
many years, even doing a summer session at the American Academy of Dramatic
Arts in New York City and was an alternate for a Shakespeare workshop at the
Alliance Theatre in Atlanta. It’s as if Daza Dance is a
mirror that continues to reflect and draw out my true complete self.
