Today I had a chance to work with the incomparable Sebastian
Colavita in Argentine Tango! Several
months ago I read about How Sebastian had impacted the studio the last time he
was here, and saw the fantastic piece he choreographed for Antonio and Bonnie
Emerson, an award winning competitive student at Daza Dance. I had been hoping
he would come back to Atlanta and I am ecstatic to finally have had the
opportunity to work with him!
We warmed up
with Rumba and though I was feeling nervous at first Sebastian made me feel
like family. I didn’t realize how
different Argentine Tango was from Ballroom Tango, and how dependent it is on
improvisation and spontaneity. We
worked a lot on form and I learned how to be a better follower. He gave me
advice that not only was good for Tango, but for Cha- Cha and Rumbas as well.
I felt so encouraged by the end of the class and so grateful
that Sebastian was able to carve some time in his busy schedule to work with
me. I felt like this was a preview of things to come!
