Antonio and I chatted for a few minutes before class. My jaw
was on the floor as we talked about religion, I have learned so much from him
about listening to people, and not having preconceived notions about what a
person thinks and feels.
Class began and we warmed up with Rumba and Cha-Cha before
diving into the choreography. When we got to the part I was feeling sketchy all
I could do was laugh and apologize. Amazingly enough after about 50 times I got it right. I was
calling out the steps like I was in the Army. The life lesson of the day came
as I was trying to perfect the steps. I kept trying to rush through the steps instead of immersing
myself in each movement and taking my time. Antonio told
me to put my mind on what happens next and my body on what is happening in the
moment, I can’t move on to the next moment until I complete what is going on in
the here and now. After class ended I sat still for a few moments and thought
about everything I learned. I looked around at the other students and felt so
wonderful being connected to such amazing people.
