For a technically challenged person like myself learning to use
social media has opened a whole new world to me; I have heard from Artists from
all over the US, France, and Brazil. Some highlights have been being followed
by dancers from two prestigious ballet companies, the Bolshoi ballet from their
Branch in New York City, and from the Dance Theatre of Harlem. I remember my
mother taking me to see the Stephanie Dabney Dance of the Dance Theatre of
Harlem dance The Firebird and how that performance inspired me as a child.
Most recently I have re- connected with my High-School
friends through Facebook in the group Billy Densmore Fan Club. Mr. Densmore was
the Director of the Northside School of the performing Arts in Atlanta, Georgia
where I went to High School. Through Drama, Dance and music my friends and I
connected with all cultures and backgrounds and toured the world promoting
togetherness and unity. I learned a lot about perfecting
my craft and diligence through him and the many talented teachers on staff.
With all of my accomplishments during that time as I have
grown older the one thing I would have changed would be developing a practice
of peace and solitude. As an artist I gave so much but didn’t take the time to
restore myself and constantly felt drained. Since that time I have developed in
the area of faith and see how resting my body and soul periodically helps me to
expand my mind causing me to be able to give of myself at a deeper level. I
truly value the wisdom and insight I have gained during these quiet times of
stillness.
