As this week-end celebrates the Birthday of the Reverend Dr.
Martin Luther King, Jr. I have been reflecting on the Civil Rights Movement and
how far we have come as a country. Dr. King’s I Have a Dream speech is one of
the most important speeches woven into the fabric of our nation and speaks of
people coming together and letting love rule in your heart instead of hate.
I remember coming to Daza Dance and thinking Dr. King’s
dream was alive here- you only have to look at the staff with representation
from Venezuela, Uruguay, Argentina, The Ukraine, and the United States coming
together under the beauty and love of dance to see that this is true. Likewise
the students come from all cultures and backgrounds contributing to a feeling
of family as we celebrate each other’s differences. I am so proud to be part of this family
and look forward to not only learning how to be a better dancer, but to be a
better person.
